Worth Every Penny for me but, as always, YMMV.
Devonthink to go review update#
The DEVONthink 3 update cost me $36.75 for a grand total of $144.75.

When I decided that I wanted to be able to have multiple databases I upgraded to DEVONthink Pro 2 for $79.

I got DEVONthink 1 Personal for $29 (I think that it was via a software bundle) close to 20 years ago. I took a minute and figured out what I have spent on DEVONthink. Gawd Knows that DT users were ready for it it was easily the #1 feature request with a UI update being #2. It took the DEVONthink developers a long time to give us syncing but it was well-worth the wait because they got it right. If you don't need/want those AI-based features (among other things.) then Eagle Filer is easily the next-best option. ĮagleFiler is an excellent option (especially at $30 during the sale.) but basically DEVONthink's intelligence is what makes it worth the extra dough. It's a similar product, and since you have to spring for the much more expensive DevonThink version to get email management, if that's a goal then Eaglefiler might be a better option. Be great if it could understand and deal with photo metadata.Īnd BTW, one can get 25% off Eaglefiler, by the same developer who makes SpamSieve. One thing I wish it did was handle images better. Some different options on doing it, but I find it very reliable. Synching is very good with other Macs and iOS devices. I also wasn’t keen on the proprietary file aspect. I used to be a big fan of Devonthink Pro, and used it for a few years, several years ago.Īt that time its weak link was syncing between devices, especially iOS devices. I'm just a very satisfied long-time user of DEVONthink and DEVONagent along with other apps from the company. DEVONthink is very helpful for doing research and writing projects.ĭisclaimer: I have no financial interest in Devon Technologies. If I had a kid or grandchild in high school or college I would give them licenses to each of them. You can even set-up automatic searches that only register hits when new information is discovered.īoth of these apps would be extremely helpful for students.

I describe it as "Internet searches on steroids." It is a powerful tool for doing deep Internet searches with the ability to access multiple online databases. A license is good for a maximum of 2 seats.Īnother incredible app is DEVONagent . I did not expect to receive the 25% discount and I appreciate the extra savings.

The 25% Black Friday discount was automatically applied in addition to my version upgrade discount. There are two additional versions including a server-based edition. I used DEVONthink Pro until the recent major upgrade and all of the features that I rely on are present in DEVONthink 3. IMO most people only need the basic DEVONthink 3 edition. As I went through this litany of features, I realized that DEVONthink can take the place of a huge number of apps-if I had to, I could do nearly all my work within DEVONthink. So I went on to say that it can hold, organize, and search files (like the Finder, only better) it can edit plain and rich text files (like TextEdit, only better) it can annotate PDFs (like Pre- view, only better) it can store and present photos, movies, music, and webpages (though, admittedly, not as well as Apple’s Photos, Music, TV, and Safari apps) and that’s just the barest beginning. I started by saying it’s an information management tool, but that’s pretty vague. Recently I was trying to explain DEVONthink to someone who had never used it. Here is how Joe Kissell describes DEVONthink in Take Control of DEVONthink 3 (a free sponsored ebook that supplements the official user manual): I've been using DEVONthink for over 15 years and it's one of those apps that I would not want to have to live without.
